As we have seen recently in Johannesburg, rainy and wet weather conditions, can increase the likelihood of car accidents. Bad weather can result in potholes, uneven road surfaces and many other unexpected hazards on the road. Ofcourse the weather is not the only aspect out of your control that can aggravate the likelihood of an accident.

Minutes after the accident takes place

Whether the result of a bad weather or not, it is important for you to know what to do moments after an accident occurs. Also to be vigilant as soon as reality hits and the paperwork begins. Follow these tips to ensure a stress-free claims process.

  • The most important thing to do is stay calm. If you become stressed or emotional, you might lose sight of what is important. The information you need to get from the other party involved. Even if the accident was the other person’s fault, it will be counter active to start an argument.
  • Always keep a pen and notebook in your car for emergency situations. Have your policy number and any other relevant documentation on hand.
  • Take down the other person’s personal and insurance details – full name, address, license plate number etc…Also don’t forget to take photos of your vehicle and notes about the accidents.
  • Claims do not only include those for your vehicle. You need to make sure you record every injury from whiplash to a broken leg.

Your Insurer

It’s important to note that your car insurance will cover you up to the value you have chosen as laid out in your Policy Schedule. This value will either be the Retail Value, Market Value, or Specified Value. Should you need to claim for any damages to your vehicle, iWYZE will authorise an approved panel beater to contact you with regards to bringing your vehicle in for repairs.

If your car insurance policy includes car hire, you will be provided with a replacement vehicle in the case of your own vehicle suffering an accident, fire or theft. Please note that car hire does not extend to times when your vehicle is undergoing servicing, or breaks down due to a mechanical or electrical fault.

Submitting your claim is easy and can be done online, over the phone by calling 0860 93 94 93 (Mon-Fri: 08:00 to 18:00, Sat: 08:00 to 13:00) or sending an email with details of your policy or ID number to claims@iwyze.co.za.
